Job Description/Requirements

In this ever-changing world where consumers are spoilt for choice when it comes to product selection for the bath and body care needs, what I am striving for, in growing the NAYA by Africa brand, is to build a very customer-centered brand. One whose products are directly aligned with the needs of the customers we serve.   Where the customer connects with the brand and their choice of bath and body care products feel like it we made it personally that for them.

One of my favorite things to do is to stand in the corner of our retail shop and watch how customers interact with our products, the questions they ask, the feedback they give, the unique ways they use the products, the suggestions they have for us, and the new products they want us to make. The scents they love, and others that their kids and partners prefer. How one person enjoys the whole process of rubbing shea butter in their palms till it’s soft and warm before gently massaging into every corner of their skin, as they soak in the sweet-fresh-orange and mint scents of our Orange and Mint Shea Fusion while another prefers plain old coconut oil with that hint of natural tropical fresh coconut scent.

The best part of all of this for me is we get to learn from customers and create products we use every day. As an African, building an African Beauty brand using African ingredients, I feel a sense of responsibility to make our shea butter, black soap, baobab oil, neem oil, and coconut oil based products mainstream. So that when we need bath, body, haircare, and skincare products and we walk into a retail shop or shop online, your choices are fun, smell good, come in a variety of scents, have various product options, premium quality and feel like it was made just for you.

So long story short, I need your help, if you enjoy customer-focused product research and analysis, strategy development, marketing communication, brand storytelling, marketing analytics, and developing exciting creative content that educates and engages both online and offline audiences. You need to be very hands-on and be ready to delve deep into the personal care industry. A big plus if you are tech-savvy and able to understand and use modern marketing tools and software.

You will conduct product, customer and beauty industry research, lead marketing campaigns, evaluate marketing performance metrics, and manage the development and creation of customer-focused ads and communications tools that will drive new customer engagement, learning, brand awareness and loyalty.

To succeed in this role, you will need to be creative, a great writer, love branding, learning, and research.

Responsibilities

  • Research, communicate and evaluate
    • Customer types and their personal care needs
    • Beauty industry news, trends and products
    • Product use, ingredients and benefits
  • Shape brand standards, update brand guide and create processes to ensure all creative products are brand appropriate.
  • Develop marketing campaigns and strategies for bringing them to life.
    • Direct creative sessions for content development
    • Develop exceptional well-crafted copy for brand communications.
    • Define and execute communication activities across channels
  • Manage brand communication across all customer touchpoints (online and offline)
    • Develop communications plans to share brand and product stories, marketing materials and customer content through blogs, website and email marketing.
    • Share brand stories in various mediums to create brand awareness and visibility in both online and traditional media
    • Educate and engage customers to build customer community loyalty.
  • Coordinate all marketing activities and build synergies between digital platforms (website and social media) and retail shops.
  • Collaborate with other teams to develop, design and promote offerings
  • Track the performance of all marketing campaigns, assess against goals and make recommendations for management.
  • Represent the company at events to promote the brand and engage new customers
  • Generate opportunities to collaborate and develop partnerships with other companies/brands, locally, regionally, and internationally.
  • Look for high quality media opportunities to promote the brand
  • Set up and coordinate learning/training opportunities about brand and product information for sales team
  • Be up to date on relevant beauty industry news, trends and product

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Marketing, Advertising, Communication, Branding, Design or 4+ years’ experience in marketing particularly with research, strategy development, branding and advertising
  • Experience with website management, social media, digital marketing and emerging technologies is a plus
  • A solid understanding of brand design, copy, and web practices.
  • Brilliant interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of brand development and multichannel marketing models.
  • Must be a creative and strategic thinker.
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills
