Job Title: Positive Youth Development Technical Advisor

Job Description:

This program aims to enhance the socio-economic status of youth in northern Ghana through the active involvement of youth-led and youth-serving organizations. As the Positive Youth Development Technical Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in promoting cross-sectoral engagement and fostering positive youth development (PYD) outcomes, enabling young people to make informed life choices and influence policy decisions.

Responsibilities:

As the Positive Youth Development Technical Advisor, your responsibilities will include:

Leading the integration of PYD principles across the program, including supporting staff in incorporating PYD into their technical, operational, and Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) activities.
Establishing effective partnerships with local youth education and employment institutions, public and private sector partners, civil society organizations, and youth-led and youth-serving organizations to ensure a comprehensive approach to youth engagement.
Conducting Gender and Youth Social Inclusion-focused research to identify barriers and opportunities for positive youth development.
Designing inclusive activities that cater to diverse youth groups, including marginalized populations like young women, youth with disabilities, and other underserved groups.
Strengthening the capacity of staff, partners, and stakeholders to integrate gender equity, PYD, and social inclusion considerations into program activities.
Collaborating with program staff and partners to develop evidence-based gender and youth strategies that align with USAID’s gender and youth policies and guidelines.
Providing guidance and technical support to technical and MEL staff on strategies for youth engagement throughout the project lifecycle.
Reviewing and providing input on project work plans, ensuring the inclusion of gender, youth, and social inclusion dimensions.
Supporting the MEL team in defining indicators, setting targets, planning data collection, analysis, and reporting, with a focus on PYD and gender and social inclusion outcomes.
Contributing to quarterly and annual project reports and internal documentation.
Sharing lessons learned with program staff and stakeholders.
Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in gender studies, youth development, international studies, sociology, or social sciences (Master’s degree preferred).
5-7 years of consecutive work experience in international youth development, gender and social inclusion, and cross-sectoral programs, including management positions (USAID experience preferred).
Familiarity with USAID’s Positive Youth Development Framework, gender and youth policies, and the do-no-harm approach.
Strong knowledge of the barriers affecting youth development in Ghana, including youth employment, non-formal education, healthcare access, and civic engagement.
Experience conducting gender and/or youth analyses, including qualitative data collection.
Proven interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with staff, donor partners, and government stakeholders at all levels in a culturally sensitive manner.
Program/project management experience working with underserved populations in conflict-affected areas.
Expertise in developing youth engagement strategies, building staff and partner capacity, and implementing these strategies.
Knowledge of capacity building and professional development in a developing country context, preferably in Ghana or West Africa, with a preference for experience in northern Ghana.
Strong oral and written communication skills in English, including the ability to make formal and informal presentations and compose professional reports and documents.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
