About This Role

  • To provide daily supply of drill consumables and drill water to all drills to suppress dust and hole collaring during drilling, in a safe and controlled manner.

In This Role You Will

Water Truck Pre-Shift and On-Shift Activities.

  • The water truck operator should attend pre-shift meetings, communicate with the Drill Supervisor, and follow the daily water truck plan.
  • The operator should perform pre-start inspections of the water truck systems and equipment, initiate proper start-up, and load and operate the truck as instructed.
  • The operator should fill the truck tank with water, obtain consent to move in and out of the drilling area, and supply drills with water as per standard operating procedures.
  • The operator should monitor the truck’s performance, report any issues to the Maintenance/Drill Supervisor, and report accidents and incidents immediately.
  • The operator should meet performance expectations set by management, assist in developing peers, and perform other related activities as assigned by the Drill Supervisor.

Drill Water Haulage.

  • Operate and drive heavy water and flatbed trucks to transport drill water.
  • Remain responsible for the collection and haulage of water from loading point to drill, at the correct site locations.
  • Drive to and from the drills in a safe, slow and controlled manner.

Drill Water Post-Shift Handover.

  • Communicate and provide work status handovers to incoming Drill Water Truck Operator.
  • Communicate with the Dispatcher regarding hazards encountered to provide sufficient information to the incoming Drill Water Truck Operator for the smooth running of Operations.

Stakeholder Management and Engagement.

  • Liaise with the Drill Supervisor to maintain ongoing communication during all water charging and discharging activity.
  • Liaise with the pump attendants to determine and obtain adequate water supplies.
  • Liaise with the Drillers to ensure that all drill holes have been effectively collared and communicate with Dispatch any defects on the drill water truck.
  • Ensure own water truck shift work meets established statutory standards.

Health and Safety Management.

  • Operate the drill water truck safely and follow all safety policies, procedures, and legislation.
  • Inspect work areas to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety throughout all activities and provide hands-on assistance to colleagues.
  • Attend daily morning safety meetings.

Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations).

  • Senior High School Certificate.

Additional Knowledge.

  • MINCOM Equipment Competency.
  • License D & E.
  • Knowledge of Water Trucks and other related equipment.
  • General understanding of mining operations.
  • General understanding of equipment controls and electronics.
  • General knowledge in mid-to-heavy equipment operation.

Experience.

  • Minimum of 2 – 3 years’ experience working as a water truck operator, within an active open pit mine environment.
