Position : International Consultant – Accra / Berlin
Background
The Foreign Trade Association of German Retailers (AVE), in partnership with the Association of Ghana Apparel Manufacturers (AGAM) and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is implementing a multi-year programme aimed at strengthening AGAM’s institutional capacity and international positioning within global value chains.
As part of this initiative, AVE seeks to commission a high-level strategic dialogue that explores how sustainability is transforming consumer behaviour in the fashion industry. The objective is to equip AGAM with the insights needed to refine its service offering, external communication, and engagement with global markets.
Objective of the Assignment
The consultant will design and facilitate a strategic exchange between AGAM and selected European experts. The session will focus on current and emerging consumer trends in sustainable fashion—specifically transparency, ethical production, and circular business models—and translate these into actionable insights for AGAM’s organisational and strategic development.
Scope of Work
1. Strategic Concept Design
- Develop a clear, high-level concept and structure for the dialogue session
- Ensure alignment with AGAM’s strategic objectives and institutional priorities
- Define concrete learning outcomes to guide the exchange
2. Stakeholder Engagement
- Identify and confirm one to two relevant European experts (e.g. fashion buyers, sustainability leads, or consumer behaviour specialists)
- Conduct pre-session briefings to align speaker contributions with the session objectives
3. Facilitation and Delivery
- Act as lead moderator during the session in Berlin
- Create an inclusive, focused, and insight-oriented discussion environment
- Ensure seamless implementation of the session
4. Strategic Follow-up
Deliver a concise summary highlighting key insights, relevance for AGAM, and suggested follow-up actions
Timeframe and Workload
The assignment is expected to require a total input of 6 working days, distributed as follows:
- 2 days: Concept development and coordination
- 2 days: Final preparation, speaker briefings, and moderation planning
- 1 day: On-site facilitation in Berlin
- 1 day: Post-session documentation and reporting

Professional Experience
- Minimum of 7 years in the fashion or apparel sector, with a focus on brand development, international strategy, or sustainabilityProven experience in designing and moderating strategic dialogue formats or multi-stakeholder exchanges
Technical Competence
- Strong understanding of sustainability frameworks, global consumer trends, and market access requirements
- Expertise in brand communication and industry positioning
Contextual Understanding
- Experience working with African industry actors or in cross-cultural development contexts is considered an asset
Communication Skills
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken
- Strong facilitation and moderation skills in professional settings
Working Conditions
The consultant will conduct preparation and follow-up remotely and must be available on site in Berlin for the delivery of the session. AVE will cover all venue-related and logistical costs. The assignment will be coordinated closely with AVE and AGAM through virtual meetings and regular email communication.
