Job Vacancy – HR Advisor 

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR generalist to join the Cement Australia team as an HR Advisor based at our Gladstone operational site. This role will operate ‘stand-alone’ onsite, supported by a central HR team. The role reports to the Senior HR Business Partner for Operations, based in our Corporate Head Office in Darra, Brisbane, but working in close partnership with the Gladstone Operations Manager.

This is a newly created role, for a 12-month maximum term engagement, to support day to day HR issues, as well as range of projects and new initiatives at Gladstone – our largest manufacturing site. You will provide support to the HR Business Partner and the Gladstone leadership team across the full breadth of HR services, policies and systems, including employee relations.

This role will suit a motivated and confident HR professional, with the ability to work across a mix of professional and operational staff, tackle whatever comes their way, and build strong relationships, networks and trust within the business. You will be consistent and ‘hands on’ in your approach and be able to hit the ground running to make valued and evident change.

About the role:

At a high level, some of the work you could expect to do includes:

  • Support the Operations Manager and line leaders in the management and progression of day-to-day HR issues, to level out ‘backlog’
  • Support the Operations Manager in the execution of key HR projects and initiatives
  • Provide coaching and guidance to line leaders to build the HR capability
  • Conduct exit interviews
  • Carry out formal / informal investigations into disciplinary matters and provide advice and support to management on appropriate courses of action
  • Support leaders in performance and discipline matters, including terminations
  • Support and educate the business in all HR Disciplines to facilitate line leader growth and development in their HR / IR knowledge
  • Engage continually and effectively with the Senior HR Business Partner, Operations and ensure all activities are aligned to both the central People & Capability team and site objectives
  • Provide advice and interpretation of the Gladstone Enterprise Agreement
  • Provide reporting and analytics support on HR metrics and use this reporting to drive change where there are opportunities to do so
  • Support the recruitment process in all necessary facets
  • Prepare letters of offer, and other required documents outlining changes of terms and conditions of employment

About you:

  • Experience in HR Generalist role (experience in a similar industry is advantageous)
  • Degree in Human Resources preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in managing ER/IR issues and engaging with Unions
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills with the ability to effectively manage competing priorities
  • Tenacity, drive and energy
  • Ability to build effective relationships and influence leaders
  • Proactive, results driven and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Intermediate computer skills e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint
