Job Description


GGBL operates from two sites in four drinks categories: Stout, Lager, RTD and Malt as well as the production and distribution of Spirits. The business is the largest of the brewing businesses in Ghana holding circa 75% market share.



Growth in the Ghana economy is expected to continue at mid to high single digit in a driven environment.

Consumers and customers in this region expect products of the highest quality. There is also growing middle classes who are likely to experiment with new products.

  • GGBL is undertaking significant change process, principally in the areas of accountability, quality maintenance practices, supply planning, cost reduction and efficiency. Purpose of the Role

The prime responsibility of the Head of Logistics is to lead logistics operations within the market. Performance delivery, either directly with Diageo team and/ or through third party providers (where relevant to the market), is across the end-to-end logistics network. The scope includes logistics of all materials, imports, transport modes & storage locations. The role holder will also be responsible for driving improvements in both effectiveness and efficiency in the local Logistics Network. The role holder will form part of the market Supply Chain Leadership Team and therefore will play a key role in defining the supply chain strategy for the market whilst owning specific logistics elements.

Key Accountabilities

  • Transportation and warehouse operations in the local/area network, either directly or indirectly managed, owning the executional work with 3rd party service providers (warehouse and transport activities) where relevant. Ensuring contractual commitments of the suppliers are delivered and exceeded, managed via clearly defined governance structure
  • Generate strategic projects to deliver step changes in COGS, service, and flexibility across the supply chain.
  • Drive and implement long term Demand and Supply Logistics capacity strategies. Develop sourcing plan working with Procurement team for services/assets relevant to the market context (e.g Africa Returnable Glass and Crates Purchase)
  • Engage, lead, and develop our people by releasing their potential. Develop ‘world class performance’ (for quality, safety, service and cost) and build opportunities for competitive advantage in market. Drive a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Budget management and the development of annual operating plans in line with AOP expectations, supervise and prepare variance analysis reports for expense vs budget.
  • To provide functional expertise and support the development of continuous improvement activities within 3PL and Diageo operations
  • To drive and own key change and integration initiatives in transportation to deliver coordinated and efficiente transport solutions across the transport network.
  • To influence internal and external collaborators from the Supply Chain to improve end to end processes as Logistics is at the chain and is responsible to deliver Diageo goods to our customers
  • To deliver standardized performance management across the network.
  • Operate as part of a coordinated management team, managing expectations and calling out issues as the need arises.
  • Owns CARM & GAR logistics controls agenda
  • Manage the relationship with the internal teams and external customers who receive services from the logistics network
  • Ensures local logistics staff and external contractors comply by Health & Safety and Security standards.

Requirements – Capabilities, Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 8 -10 years’ experience as a logistics manager covering key aspects of Warehousing, Transport, Customs Clearing, Logistics Procurement, Demand Planning and Customer (OTC) in a manufacturing company
  • Proven experience in leading and developing logistics networks, their suppliers, and capabilities within Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) companies. A profound understanding of supply chain processes and their interactions is also required
  • Experience in supplier / 3rd party / outsourced logistics solution management
  • Demonstrable ability to engage and align collaborators behind plans and win support for implementing change within the organisation
  • BSc or MSc or equivalent experience in a supply chain related subject
  • Ability to lead in environments where influence is more important than formal authority
  • Demonstrable knowledge of end-to-end supply chain and Customer teamwork
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal and written combined with the ability to engage effectively at all levels in the organisation
  • An understanding of how leading technology can enable effective logistics operations
