Context/Scope

GGBL operates from two sites in four drinks categories: Stout, Lager, RTD and Malt as well as the distribution of Spirits. The business is the largest of the brewing businesses in Ghana holding circa 75% market share.

Growth in the Ghana economy is encouraged to continue at mid to high single digit in a driven environment.

  • This role is key in the GGBL Supply Leadership Team and is crucial for effective Brewery Operations.
  • The role holder will need to develop, support and implement specific plans to achieve standards

Purpose of Role

Ensure efficient operation of the production unit within approved operational budget and governance towards achievement of agreed targets for availability of products, product quality, equipment availability and maintenance, personnel training, and Safety/Health and Environment (SHE).

Top Accountabilities

  • Contribute to Occupational Health and Safety standards. Frequently state and articulate that Safety is our No.1 priority. Be transparent as an ambassador for safety by behaving in a safe manner at all times and always challenging unsafe practices and behaviour of others, reprimanding where appropriate. Adhere strictly to the site safety rules and systems and equipment operational procedures.
  • Drive the agenda of the Food Safety and Quality Management System.
  • Optimise efficiency on site by ensuring effective asset care systems and practices are delivered:
  • Ensuring engineering standards are met for new equipment and installations.
  • Developing measures and critical metrics to ensure improvement plans are delivered.
  • Manage the asset care budget and provide feedback into the capital budget. Allocate R&M budget to Operations Managers
  • Facilitate all Engineering Capex projects within the site.
  • Develop improvement plans for utility usage through clear measures of energy performance.
  • Ensure all outsourced activity is managed effectively through performance management framework and is recorded in Diageo CMMS systems (e.g. SAP PM) Ensure all health, safety and environment, quality, cost and reliability standards are met and driving conformance to regulatory and accreditation standards on site.
  • Mentor team members to identify areas of underperformance and produce accident/incident reporting to a level that enables learning and root cause to be established.
  • Role model and mentor reports in the use systemic problem-solving tools within the department Participate in the T3 Daily Operational Review.
  • Provide expert experience and mentorship to support strategic problem-solving issues Deliver 100% P4G conversations and personal development plans for all team members (both technical and behavioural proficiencies) to ensure development of maintenance competence in specialist and asset care teams
  • Own communication and culture for asset care and ensure messages are cascaded and team aligned.

Qualifications And Experience Required

Skills & Knowledge

Skills, Experience And Qualifications

  • Equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Electrical Engineering
  • Other technical qualifications may be suitable when accompanied by suitable engineering managerial experience within a FMCG Manufacturing environment
  • Chartered Engineer status, or equivalent, would be helpful
  • NEBOSH qualified, or equivalent.

Experience (Crucial)

  • A professional engineer with experience developed over a number of roles
  • Proven technical ability to manage in a sophisticated environment, delivering practical solutions
  • Delivery of maintenance standard process and engineering project management
  • Proven track record to lead and manage people performance, mentor and development of a multi-disciplined team of up to 25 people
  • Sound and proven financial savvy
  • Proactive structured problem evaluation & solving skills learnt through exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, TPM or Manufacturing excellence
  • Proficient in use of standard business (MS Office) and Diageo packages

Desirable/developed In Role

  • SAP (or MRP systems), Planned Maintenance, Environmental and Quality systems
  • Knowledge of local Health, Safety & Environmental legislation and controls e.g. COMAH
