Purpose of Job
To provide, manage and direct cost-effective engineering maintenance and project services to all sites concerning AECI plants and fleets to meet the business needs, safety and all other company and departmental requirements to ensure continuous operation/production and to meet organisational targets
Functional Outputs
- To ensure the effective control and maintenance of functional budget and managed within the sanctioned amount and to ensure inventory is within acceptable levels
- Ensure the work carried out by the maintenance team is of a standard that supports the operational requirements of the equipment and is at optimum cost
- Support the development and implementation of systems for the Engineering department to provide effective planning of work, efficient and safe work practices, monitoring of performance and promote continuous improvement
- Provide technical input to management to develop the safety management plan, consistent with AECI’s standards
- Review the application of safety standards and work practices
- Ensure that all engineering activities are performed to the required standards and to ensure that all maintenance standards, policies and regulations are complied with
- Assist with technical input to solve process engineering problems to ensure timeous resolutions and documentation for organisational knowledge management
- Plant maintenance and development improvements are implemented and corrective action is taken in problem areas to improve machine efficiencies
- To recommend modifications of existing equipment, plant, fleets and facilities and the possible replacement of same that will improve machine efficiencies
- To manage, lead and develop direct reports to ensure career growth and development in collaboration with the Human Capital training department
- To ensure a highly disciplined and motivated team for continuous operations
- Establish good and effective relationships with customers and suppliers to ensure a thorough understanding of company needs and performance requirements are met always in a safe manner
- To produce reports on all areas as required to guide management for efficient operations
- Interface with functional heads within the AECI family in areas of own responsibility
Qualification Required & Experience
- A minimum Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Minimum of 7 to 10 years working experience in engineering management level (at least 5 years of hands-on experience in engineering maintenance operations and projects)
- Professional/statutory qualification as an Engineer and must possess engineering manager certificate of competency from MinCom.
- Must be a member of a relevant professional body
- Must have sound knowledge of project management
- Knowledge and understanding of Minerals and Mining Acts and regulation
- Must have knowledge and understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, electrical and electronic systems

- The ability to interact with customers at all operational and management level is key. The incumbent must have good project & people management skills project & people management (coaching and mentoring) is one of the strategic drives in the business and enjoys a lot of attention
- Knowledge of critical pumps, hydraulics and PLCs useful
- Must have a committed attitude to onsite health and safety standards
