Position : Administrator / Magazine Master – Takoradi

We are looking for an Administrator / Magazine Master.
The Administrator / Magazine Master has a critical role in the efficient and compliant management of explosives stock, including packaged and bulk explosives, ensuring full adherence to regulatory requirements and company policies. This position combines inventory control, operational oversight, regulatory compliance, and safety management, contributing directly to the safe and effective running of explosives-related operations. The role requires high attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, and strong knowledge of applicable explosives regulations and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
Explosives Inventory and Stock Management:



  • Manage the daily operations of the explosives magazine, including receipt, documentation, storage, and issuance of explosives and accessories.
  • Accurately receive and dispatch customer orders and internal stock transfers, ensuring completeness of delivery notes and requisitions.
  • Maintain precise and up-to-date inventory records of all explosives and accessories, using manual and digital systems per Minerals Commission requirements.
  • Implement effective stock rotation practices to minimise wastage and ensure timely use of stock within shelf-life limits.

Compliance and Safety Oversight:

  • Ensure full compliance with the Minerals and Mining (Explosives) Regulations, 2012 (LI 2177), and other applicable legislation.
  • Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols in handling, storage, and transportation of explosives.
  • Conduct and document regular internal audits, inspections, and safety drills within the magazine to identify risks and ensure compliance.
  • Prepare for and support external audits or inspections by regulatory authorities.
  • Lead incident response preparedness, including fire safety and emergency evacuation procedures.

Facility and Equipment Supervision:

  • Oversee the physical condition of the magazine, ensuring it meets all structural, security, and environmental safety standards.
  • Ensure all necessary safety and protective equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, signage, PPE) is readily available, functional, and in compliance with regulations.
  • Coordinate periodic maintenance and inspection of forklifts and other handling equipment used in the magazine.

Security and Surveillance Coordination:

  • Work closely with the security team to ensure strict access control to the magazine premises and safeguard against theft or unauthorised access.
  • Implement and maintain 24/7 security and surveillance measures to protect stored materials.
  • Maintain a daily security log and incident report register.

Administration and Reporting:

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of all magazine activities, including explosive receipts, issuances, usage reports, and disposal logs.
  • Prepare and submit timely weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on stock status, safety inspections, and compliance issues to management and regulatory bodies.
  • Assist with the preparation of documentation for blasting operations and liaise with operations and logistics teams to coordinate timely deliveries.

Continuous Improvement and Training:

  • Identify and propose improvements to storage, handling, and administrative procedures for enhanced operational efficiency.
  • Mentor and train support staff on magazine operations, safety procedures, and regulatory compliance.
  • Stay updated with changes in legislation, industry best practices, and emerging technologies in explosives storage and management.

Candidate Profile:
Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Blasting Competency Certificate (mandatory).
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in explosives magazine management or a similar role in the mining or quarrying industry.
  • Valid Driver’s License (Class C or D).
  • Fire Fighting Certificate and proven knowledge in emergency response.
  • Forklift Operation Certification.
  • Proficient knowledge of the Minerals and Mining (Explosives) Regulations, 2012 (LI 2177).

Technical and Administrative Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Strong inventory management and record-keeping skills.
  • Strong understanding of SHE (Safety, Health, and Environmental) standards and their practical application.
