Position : Human Resources Manager – Accra
Job Summary
Our client, a growing apparel and fashion company based in Accra, Ghana, is seeking an experienced and people-focused Human Resources Manager to lead the company’s human capital strategy and day-to-day HR operations.
The successful candidate will be responsible for building a high-performing, disciplined, inclusive, and employee-centered workforce while ensuring that HR policies and practices support the company’s production, commercial, creative, and growth objectives.
The role requires a hands-on HR professional who understands the dynamics of apparel production, retail, creative teams, artisans, and operational staff, and can effectively balance employee welfare with business performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. HR Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the company’s overall business objectives.
- Advise senior management on workforce planning, organizational structure, employee relations, and people-related risks.
- Develop HR policies, procedures, employee handbooks, and systems appropriate for a growing apparel business.
- Establish effective performance-management and employee-development frameworks.
- Provide regular HR reports and workforce insights to management.
2. Recruitment & Workforce Planning
- Lead recruitment and selection for production, design, merchandising, sales, and administration, logistics, and management positions.
- Develop accurate job descriptions and competency profiles for key positions.
- Build talent pipelines for skilled garment workers, tailors, pattern makers, designers, supervisors, and other specialist roles.
- Coordinate onboarding and orientation programs for new employees.
- Develop workforce plans based on production requirements and business growth.
3. Employee Relations
- Promote a positive, professional, and respectful workplace culture.
- Handle employee grievances, disciplinary matters, conflict resolution, and workplace investigations.
- Ensure consistent application of company policies and employment procedures.
- Act as a trusted point of contact for employees and management.
- Develop initiatives that improve employee engagement, motivation, retention, and productivity.
4. Performance Management
- Implement and manage a structured performance appraisal system.
- Work with department heads to establish measurable KPIs and performance objectives.
- Identify underperformance and coordinate appropriate performance-improvement plans.
- Recognize high-performing employees and support succession planning.
- Monitor staff attendance, punctuality, productivity, and disciplinary trends.
5. Learning & Development
- Conduct regular training-needs assessments.
- Develop and coordinate training programs for employees at all levels.
- Support technical training in areas such as garment production, quality control, workplace safety, customer service, and leadership.
- Develop career-development and succession-planning initiatives.
- Promote continuous learning and skills development within the organization.
6. Compensation & Benefits
- Manage payroll processes in collaboration with Finance.
- Maintain accurate employee compensation and benefits records.
- Support salary reviews, incentives, allowances, bonuses, and other employee benefits.
- Conduct periodic salary and benefits benchmarking where appropriate.
- Ensure payroll and employee records are accurate, confidential, and properly maintained.
7. Compliance & HR Administration
- Ensure HR practices comply with applicable Ghanaian employment laws and regulations.
- Maintain accurate personnel files, employment contracts, leave records, attendance records, and other HR documentation.
- Ensure appropriate procedures are followed for recruitment, termination, disciplinary action, leave, and employee benefits.
- Monitor workplace policies and practices to minimize employment-related risks.
- Maintain confidentiality of employee and company information.
8. Health, Safety & Employee Welfare
- Work with management to promote a safe and healthy workplace, particularly within garment-production environments.
- Support implementation of workplace health and safety policies.
- Coordinate employee welfare initiatives and occupational-health programs.
- Identify workplace risks and recommend appropriate corrective measures.
- Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, and accountability.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, Psychology, or a related field.
- Professional HR certification or membership is an advantage.
- 5–8 years of progressive HR experience, preferably within apparel, manufacturing, fashion, retail, FMCG, or another operational environment.
- At least 2–3 years in a supervisory or managerial HR position.
- Demonstrated experience managing recruitment, employee relations, performance management, payroll coordination, and HR compliance.
- Good working knowledge of Ghanaian employment practices and HR regulations.
- Strong HR documentation, reporting, and organisational skills.
- Experience managing both operational/production employees and professional or creative staff is highly desirable.
